We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Technical Services team at Great Fingall, working on an 8 days on / 6 days off roster.

This key role provides geotechnical leadership and operational support to ensure the stability, safety, and efficiency of mining operations across underground and associated open pit activities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Underground Manager / Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for managing geotechnical risks, maintaining site standards, and providing day-to-day geotechnical support to operations. You will also mentor geotechnical engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across ground control practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational geotechnical support including mapping, inspections, hazard assessments, and ground support recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with geotechnical requirements, Mine Safety Regulations, and Principal Mining Hazard Management Plans (PMHMP)
  • Maintain and improve ground support standards, TARPs, and QA/QC programs
  • Deliver geotechnical input into mine designs, schedules, and sequencing
  • Design, manage, and interpret geotechnical monitoring systems (e.g. prisms, MPBX, SMART cables, seismic systems)
  • Conduct investigations into geotechnical incidents such as falls of ground and seismic events
  • Manage geotechnical data, reporting, and statutory requirements
  • Mentor team members and support cross-functional collaboration with operations, planning, geology, safety, and environment teams

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Mining, Civil, or Geological Engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in mining geotechnics, with strong underground exposure (open pit experience advantageous)
  • Demonstrated capability in ground support design, excavation stability, and operational risk management
  • Strong practical mindset with the ability to communicate risk clearly to operational teams
  • Proficiency with geotechnical and mining software (e.g. Rocscience suite, Deswik/Surpac/Vulcan, Excel)
  • Commitment to safety, mentoring, and continuous improvement
  • Valid Australian work rights and ability to work on site on an 8/6 roster
